What do you think, currently, about the primary threshold concept for this project unit? (“Good” writing is dependent on writers, readers, situation, technology, and use.”) What do you think it means? Have you thought about this concept before reading about it in our textbook? If so, in what terms, or in what way, have you thought about this idea?
Good writing to me is being able to hold the reader's attention long enough for them to finish what was written. Having the right technology could help with this, adding pictures into the story or using different fonts. Usually when I write my evaluation, I think about how can I grab the attention of my boss. I think about the best way to describe myself and the work that I have been apart of in the last year.
Considering what you have read about rhetoric in the introduction to Chapter 4 and Doug Downs’s piece, “Rhetoric: Making Sense of Human Interaction and Meaning-Making,” do you think that it is possible to escape rhetoric? Why or why not?
I do not think it is possible for us to escape rhetoric. We use rhetoric in our everyday lives without even knowing it. Its how we present ourselves to others. We use it in our everyday conversation's with our friends and coworkers. Also we see it everyday if we watch TV or even you-tube, with their commercial's. So it would be hard for us not to use it in our everyday lives.
Choose any question from pages 481-482 of Writing About Writing (at the end of Downs’s piece about rhetoric), then answer that question. Include the chosen question with your response.
What are at least three reasons why bodies, not just minds, matter to rhetorical interaction? Our bodies show our thoughts and actions. We can communicate using our body language, and we don't even have to say a word. We can show someone emotion just by using our body. We can show a response to a question with out using a single word. This is why I think our bodies matter when dealing with rhetorical interaction.
How does rhetoric fit in the life of a believer? How can a Christian use rhetoric in their walk of
faith?
As we spread the gospel with others, we can use rhetoric. There are so many ways we can do this. it can range from how we give a sermon or a bible study. If we put the emotion that we should when doing either of these two, then the person we are talking to will see that fire we have for the LORD and they will want that also. Also by showing them God's character, LOVE, by just using our body language, or just speaking kind words to them. When we put a presentation together for a church meeting we can use technology to be creative and help grab others attention. There are so many more ways to use rhetoric when walking with CHRIST.
Name one concept from this lesson that you most struggle(d) to understand. What about this concept, term, or idea is troublesome? What do you currently think it means, whether you feel certain or not?
Ecology. I have a hard time looking past people for more influence on writing. Our text book uses the example of machines using rhetoric.(pages 466-467) Looking past the surface and looking into our surrounding's. I feel like if I can get better at that part I can come up with better ideas when I am thinking about something to write.
